This bread recipe is very simple to make. No kneading and bread machine required. It makes two tasty and crusty loaves.
Ingredients:
3 1/3 cups (432 grams) all-purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup and leveled-off 1 1/2 teaspoons (6 grams) salt 2 1/4 teaspoons (7 grams) active dry yeast 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water ( lukewarm is about 100°F)
Instructions:
In a large bowl, stir together 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water (about 100˚F). Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt and whisk until dissolved. Add 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast, then stir and let it stand for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, stir the yeast mixture. Add 3 1/3 cups of flour to the bowl. Using a spatula, stir until dough comes together and well blended. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for 2 hours.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and generously dust with flour. Using spatula divide the dough into two, then scrape dough out of the bowl with a spatula onto the floured surface.
With your floured hands, lift it up and form a ball in your hands. Sprinkle parchment paper with more flour, then Place the dough seam side down.
Let it rest at room temperature, uncovered, for about 40 minutes. The dough will rise a bit. It may also spread or flatten a bit but that’s okay. Using a knife, slash the dough 2 times.
Preheat the oven to 450°F. Set one rack in the lowest position of the oven and one rack in the middle position. Bake until the loaf is golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack. Serve and enjoy!
